Last night, a fabulous concert was held in the MGS Memorial Hall of Alexander L'Estrange's Song Cycle: vive la velorution!.

The performance featured Year 4 children from MGS, New Islington Free School and St James' C of E Primary School, along with musicians from MGS, Withington Girls' School and Manchester High School for Girls.

Alexander wrote the choral work to mark the Grand Depart of the Tour de France 2014. The piece combines different musical styles: pastiche Victorian music hall, Gilbert & Sullivan, folk, minimalism, barbershop, musical theatre and jazz.

Everyone involved performed superbly, and the Year 4 pupils from the three schools sung superbly in front of a packed audience, and rightly received a standing ovation at the end. Well done to everyone who performed, and a huge thank you to everyone who braved the miserable weather to be part of the audience and show their support.

A voluntary collection was also held on the door for Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
