MGS 5

MGS is delighted to be welcoming multiple schools throughout the day for an event held in the Junior School for younger pupils across the area, the Bexwyke Lecture 2022.

Our guest speaker for the day is Sean Dick, Chester Zoo’s Learning Operations Manager. With a background and degree in Zoology with Animal Behaviour, Sean first joined the staff of Chester Zoo in 2011 and for the past 10 years has been working in the Conservation Education and Engagement team in various roles. He has spent a number of years delivering workshops to schools and public engagement to the zoo’s 2 million annual visitors, and is currently responsible for developing and delivering their work with schools, colleges and universities, empowering the next generation of conservationists. He has spent the past 5 years working with schools to embed conservation and sustainability at the heart of the school curriculum, building knowledge and inspiring connections with the natural world to help the zoo achieve its mission to prevent extinction. He delivered an inspiring lecture to everyone in the Memorial Hall, encouraging our guests to think more about sustainability for the future.

Alongside this lecture, there will be a variety of workshops taking place throughout the day, ranging from discussions about Endangered Animals, Identification and Classification for living things, and even exploring how music can be used to raise awareness about the crucial issue of conservation.

Ms Eleanor Losse, Head of Junior School, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the prestigious Bexwyke Lecture. After a two-year hiatus, we welcome pupils from over 10 local primary schools to participate in a series of small workshops and to come together in the Memorial Hall for the lecture on the theme of Zoos and Conservation. This year's guest speaker is Sean Dick, Learning Operations Manager at Chester Zoo, who brings with him a wealth of knowledge and  expertise on animal behaviour, conservation education and sustainability. Pupils have been invited to submit posters on the theme and Sean will judge the competition. Previous speakers have covered such wide-ranging topics as author visits to astronauts and we will soon be on the lookout for a high-profile speaker for next year's lecture”.

Thank you to all the schools who will be attending the event and we hope you enjoy the day!
