Head of Junior School - Linda Hamilton BA Ed

Linda brought a wealth of expertise to the role as the first Head of our Junior School. Educated at Stretford Grammar School for Girls and then at Manchester University, she has taught in Iraq, Qatar, Nigeria and England.

While in Nigeria, Linda set up a pre-school and on her return to England she joined Altrincham Preparatory School for boys teaching Year 6 pupils and going on to become Deputy Head of the School. Linda has always taught at junior level and especially enjoys teaching younger boys as she had three sons of her own, two of them former pupils of MGS.

Linda is also an Independent Schools Inspector and an Associate Governor at Altrincham Grammar School.

Having spent the last ten years renovating their home, Linda recuperates with her favourite past times of walking, reading and travel.

MarkCreweRead

Mark Crewe-Read was born in North Wales and educated at Wellington College in Berkshire. Having gained a degree in International Politics and Strategic Studies at Aberystwyth, he spent three years in retail management before changing careers to education.

Teaching has taken Mark from Hampshire to North Yorkshire, the Moray Firth, Cheshire and now MGS, having previously been Director of Studies at The Grange Junior School in Hartford.

Mark enjoys the outdoors when he can - running, scrambling, kayaking and sailing, as well as coaching rugby in Chester. He also plays the bagpipes in a local pipe band, an instrument he has only recently taken up.

PE Specialist

Matt Roe was born in Lincoln and educated at state schools before earning a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science at Nottingham.

He first realised his love of teaching when he spent many, many summers working for Camp America in Pennsylvania, USA at the famous Lake Owego Camp, after which he decided to complete his PGCE at Leeds Carnegie.

Matt has been a secondary school PE specialist for over twelve years, but realised how much he enjoyed teaching junior school age when he was Head of PE at an International school in Valencia, Spain, where the weather was slightly different to Manchester!

In his spare time, Matt enjoys playing sports, going camping, travelling, socialising and can usually be found in and around Heaton Moor Sports Club where he plays rugby and tennis. He lives nearby with his wife Fiona and two children Daniel and Isabel.
