Rachel Kneale Rachel joined the School in November 2010, to formally manage our Archive Library. She is assisted by three part-time Old Mancunians.
Originally from Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, Rachel attended King Edward VI Camp Hill School in Birmingham and King Edward VI Sixth Form College in Stourbridge, before reading Ancient History and Archaeology at the University of Liverpool. After graduating she completed a postgraduate diploma in Archives and Records Management at the University of Liverpool.
Prior to joining The Manchester Grammar School, Rachel worked as Assistant Records Manager for Shropshire Council and Archivist for Wycombe High School in Buckinghamshire. She is currently working on creating an online archive catalogue for the School’s website and digitising a portion of the many fascinating records that the School has retained. Rachel also hopes to develop the potential of the archive as a learning resource for staff and students.
The MGS Archive contains a wealth of material on the 500 year history of the School, much of which will interest researchers, including genealogists and family historians. Rachel is always happy to take enquiries from researchers via email, post or phone, and will do her best to respond with any information she is able to supply.
Researchers may visit to consult archive material in person, but should contact the Archivist in advance to arrange a suitable time to visit.
Prospective researchers should please note that records less than 75 years old may not be consulted without the prior permission of the High Master.
