Met Office Severe Weather Warnings

Monday 6 February 2012

School is open as normal today. Fog in and around the grounds; please take great care if driving on the site.

Any issues regarding weather and transport with week will be posted on this page.

In the winter months the School has the following arrangements in place for monitoring the weather and managing communication during the periods when the Met Office issue severe weather warnings.

  • Forecasts are monitored closely by senior staff.

  • In the event of severe weather, decisions and arrangements will be made on site from 6:30 am onwards and will be communicated to staff and parents via Schoolcomms email as soon as possible after 6:30 am and before 7:00 am. Our decisions will be co-ordinated with the High School, Withington and bus companies and will also be posted on our website.  In the unlikely event that the situation remains unclear at 7:00 am, a holidng message will be published to that effect.

  • Subsequent updates will be distributed via Schoolcomms email then posted on the website around lunchtime.  Updates on subsequent days will be published at the same times.

Please download a full version of arrangements during periods of severe weather here.

Please enter the Met Office link below to view the most up-to-date forecast.  The Met Office advise the public to take extra care and refer to the Highways Agency (Traffic England link below) for further advice on traffic disruption on motorways and trunk roads.

Concessionary Fares

transport7

From 3 April 2011, all school pupils will pay half the adult fare on public transport. Prices have been capped at no more than £1.40 for a single journey.

Finglands are the key provider of GMPTE subsidised transport to our schools. Following discussion with Finglands on behalf of our parents/guardians, we are able to let you know that the following options will be available:

•    A Day Return ticket of £2.50 – this will provide a small saving on the £1.40 single journey price.

•    Parents will be able to add ‘credit’ to the Finglands Smart Card – this will enable a lump sum to be paid at the beginning of the week or month and for the cost of the daily or individual fares to be deducted accordingly.  This will reduce the need for boys to carry larger amounts of cash on a daily basis.  Application forms for a Finglands Smart Card are available from the school reception. Alternatively, Smart Cards can also be ordered on-line from the following website:

http://www.finglands.co.uk/content/busservices/schooljourney.aspx

IGO Pass
Children between the age of 11 and 16 must have an IGO Pass to prove they are eligible to receive the concessionary fares mentioned above. The IGO Pass costs £5.  If your son uses a public bus in the Greater Manchester area at any time, it is worthwhile obtaining one of these cards. If your son does not have an IGO Pass, the bus driver will ask him to pay the full fare which could be £2.80 for a single trip. An application form can be downloaded from the following website:

http://www.gmpte.com/igo/igo.html

If you have any queries about any aspects of the above please do not hesitate to contact us.
