Sale and Altrincham's talented young academics are top of the form at The Manchester Grammar School with nine star students gaining offers from Oxford and Cambridge universities.

This year MGS has a total of 35 boys who have won offers to England’s two oldest seats of learning, with more successful students coming from Sale and Altrincham than any other area.

Pictured standing from left to right are: Alexander Law, 18, from Sale, who is aiming for Corpus Christi College, Oxford, to Read Classics. Alex gained a clean-sweep of 11 A stars in his GCSEs and ultimately wants to join the Foreign Office.

Yuhao Zhang, 18, from Sale, has an offer from Queen's College, Oxford, to read Medicine. An accomplished pianist and on the school badminton team, Yuhao gained 10 A stars in his GCSEs.

School Captain, James Campbell, 17, from Bowdon, has an offer from Robinson College to read Natural Sciences.  James reached the final of the Young Analyst of the Year competition and, after university, hopes to study cosmology in America for his PhD.

Jonathan Senior, 18, from Bowdon, has an offer from Emmanuel College, Cambridge to read History. Jonathan was a national award winner in the Trinity College History Essay Writing Competition.

Alexander Lee, 18, from Sale, 18, has an offer from Peterhouse College, Cambridge to read Engineering and is another with straight A stars in his GCSEs.

Chris Chung, 18, from Bowdon, has an offer to read Medicine at Christ¹s College, Cambridge. Sprint champion Chris has represented Greater Manchester at 100 metres and wants to work in medical research.

Tim Moyo, 17, from Hale, who has an offer to read Russian and Greek at University College, Oxford. A talented pianist, Tim completed a 270Km trek through the Sahara and ultimately wants to join the Diplomatic Corps.

Jack Levy, 17, from Altrincham, has an offer to read Spanish and Portuguese at Trinity College, Oxford. Jack's band won an XFM Radio competition and he has played to 2,000 people at the Apollo. As well as becoming an accomplished linguist, Jack hopes to play Glastonbury.

Finally Kai Man Cheung, 17, from Timperley, has an offer to read Mechanical Engineering at Robinson College, Cambridge. A member of MGS's national champion water polo team, Kai Man also plays Badminton for Greater Manchester and swims for Cheshire.
