Head of Department - Chris Buckley BSc
There are nine specialist teachers and three technicians in the Chemistry Department, housed in five laboratories and five teaching rooms.
There are weekly Chemistry clubs for both Middle School and the Sixth Form where many of the experiments are chosen by the boys themselves.
MGS Middle school pupils have regularly won the Royal Society of Chemistry's regional ChemQuiz competition and also the national Top of the Bench competition. Sixth Form pupils have won the Regional Schools’ Analyst Competition on several occasions and in both 2008 and 2009 qualified for the National finals.
In the Chemistry Olympiad, the School gains gold medals every year in the National Competition, and in recent years MGS pupils have represented the UK in the International Competitions held in Oslo, Beijing, Perugia, Moscow and in Taiwan.
There is also a Philosophical Society for sixth formers embracing all three sciences, which features lectures from many leading national figures in science and medicine. To see more pictures of boys In the classroom please follow this link
