All pupils in Year 7 at MGS receive four ICT lessons per cycle. A wide range of topics include file management, computer programming, email, digital images and movie making.
We have an 'Across the Curriculum' approach in which all departments use ICT as part of normal subject teaching. Pupils learn to use ICT as part of their normal academic school work in a wide variety of ways; some is carried out using computers within department areas or a specialised ICT suite.
By the end of Year 11, our pupils have developed a wide range of computer skills that include using the internet for academic research. Many become expert in a range of other ICT areas such as web design, digital image manipulation and desktop publishing. Year 13 students follow a general studies course that includes a Computer Programming ICT option. There is an active ICT club that looks at new technologies and aims to provide a focus for students wishing to develop new skills.
We have over 800 high specification desktop PCs, over 230 laptops, over 30 iPads and over 20 LearnPads, all of which are connected to our network. Desktop and laptop computers all run Windows 7 and the Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 application suite. All laptops and tablets can access an extensive site wide wireless network, to which sixth formers can also connect their personal wireless devices. All PCs have safe and secure internet access.
Every student has a private file storage space on the School's computer network along with their own school email account. Email, personal files and a variety of learning resources within our network are all available on the web for those with home internet access.
Computer access is provided in a variety of locations across the site to various year groups, and continually between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm in the Library for all students.
