PSHE at MGS is a subject that teaches our pupils to reflect on and make informed decisions about many of the challenging ethical and personal issues that they will face in the modern world. We must help equip them with knowledge and provide a forum in which they can develop insight and good decision making skills.
The programme of study for PSHE is very much tailored to the needs of the students at MGS as determined by their Pastoral Leaders. This unique approach ensures that lesson content is relevant to the year group in question and is of real use to the pupils.
These lessons are important because they are about our lives and things that happen to us. They help us prepare for decisions we have to make in life.Adam Davies (Year 11) Some of the topics covered in PSHE include; Internet safety, team building, personal conduct, health, rights and responsibilities, emotional intelligence, relationships, human rights, drugs, finance, career choices and listening skills.
PSHE is taught by staff that have a great deal of pastoral experience as well as being confident class room managers. This allows us to deal with what may be sensitive or difficult topics successfully. The department is led by Jackie Smith, who has worked in Lower and Middle School as a form tutor and Head of Year since she joined MGS in 2001. Melissa Koontz is Co-ordinator of PSHE in our Junior Section.
