Looking after each otherWe believe in the care of each individual, and continually assess, evaluate and update our methods of pastoral support and welfare of our pupils. We listen to the pupils' own views, both individually and collectively through the work of the School Council and Year Councils.
The School is divided into four distinct sections - the Sixth Form (400 pupils), the Middle School (600 pupils) the Lower School (400 pupils) and the Junior School (200 pupils). We offer all the advantages and opportunities of a large school, but each pupil feels part of a smaller and caring unit – his form group of 20 pupils in the Junior School 20-25 pupils in the Lower School and Middle School and about half that size in the Sixth Form.
Each pupil has a form tutor, who is the 'first port of call' for information, guidance or help with any issues. Each year group has a head of year, who co-ordinates the work of form tutors and deals with any major problems. Each head of year is assisted by a year tutor, who looks after boys with particular academic problems. Pupils with atypical learning styles are given individual help by our Learning Support Department.
Pupils care for each other through the form prefect system, Peer Support and the Buddy Scheme (which is specially designed to help new boys settle in).
Pastoral care and welfare, together with the academic, co-curricular and professional life of the School, are led by a section of the Senior Management Team.
We are never an impersonal school, and knowledge of each pupil and respect for him as an individual are our hallmark.
