The Manchester Grammar School is renowned world-wide for its academic excellence and the incredible breadth and quality of the
co-curricular activities on offer.
We are extremely proud of our pupils and their successes, both in school and beyond.
We aim for the widest possible social access – admitting boys through our Entrance Examination (aged 11+ only) and assessments regardless of social, cultural, religious and financial background and our bursary scheme is one of the best in the country.
We firmly believe in the care of each individual, and continually assess, evaluate and update our methods of pastoral support and welfare of our pupils to ensure that they are able to make the most of their time here at MGS. We listen to pupils' own views, both individually and collectively through the work of the School Council and Year Councils and their views have resulted in changes to the way we carry out some of our systems and practices.
The School is divided into four distinct sections: Junior Section for boys aged 9 and 10, Senior Section: Lower School for boys aged 11 and 12 and Middle School from 13 to 16, and Sixth Form for students aged 17 to 18. This offers all the advantages and opportunities of a large school, but each pupil feels part of a smaller caring unit. Pupils are taught in small class sizes: around 20 in our Junior Section, 20-26 in the Senior Section and around half that in our Sixth Form.
Please select the relevant stage of entry from the menu for more information on each Section and to view full details on how to apply to The Manchester Grammar School.
