Manchester Grammar School’s international all stars have their eye on the ball after reaching the English Table Tennis Associations Schools' Under-18 semi finals for first time.
The four man team qualified as the Champions of Greater Manchester, before going on to finish as runners-up in the North-West Schools finals.
They now face teams from the East of England, North East Midlands and West Midlands in one of four national semi-finals in Grantham of February 28 with the winners going through to the finals in London.
The team is a strong mix of British Asians, reflecting the powerhouse of the sport. Pictured from left to right are: Dan Brown, 17, from Cheadle; Karan Deepak, 16, from Macclesfield; Skipper Nabil Hudda, 18, from Withington and Will Kim, 16, from Cheadle.
Nabil Hudda, who won the Manchester under-19 title last year and hopes to study at Hong Kong University to develop his coaching skills, while also gaining a degree in sports science or philosophy, said: The international mix reflects where the sport is strongest. Table tennis a major sport in Asia whereas it is more of a pastime in Britain.
MGS Head of Sport, John Potts: This is the best ever performance from an MGS table tennis team. They practise relentlessly and I feel have an excellent chance to make the national finals.
