MEN, Friday 19 February - Some of the 35 MGS Oxbridge StudentsAt a time when claims are being made that pupils with straight-A grades at independent schools are being rejected in unprecedented numbers by elite universities, The Manchester Grammar School has confirmed its reputation as the North’s top school for entrance to Oxford and Cambridge universities.
This year 35 boys have earned offers to England’s two oldest seats of learning, down three on the last year, but above average for the last decade.
Dr Christopher Ray, High Master, said:
I am particularly delighted our boys have done so well in what has been an extremely competitive year with huge rises in the number of students applying for places at competitive universities. It is also pleasing that our boys also have over 30 offers from UCL and Imperial, two institutions, which now rank alongside Oxbridge internationally.Dr Ray added:
Our boys taking the newly introduced International Baccalaureate have been especially successful in gaining places at competitive universities including Oxbridge, UCL and Imperial.
No other school in the North exceeds 20 Oxbridge offers and only a handful of schools in London and the South East with larger local populations can match or better MGS.
