A pupil in the Manchester Grammar School Junior Section, George joined the Anfield club when he was aged just 6-years-old, even though he is, and remains, a passionate Manchester United fan.

George said: Playing for Liverpool is great fun. We have some really great coaches and it’s a fantastic club, but I still support Manchester United. It’s in my blood.

A marauding, resilient and intelligent left back, George trains at the Anfield Academy three times a week with games every Sunday, also captaining the MGS side to a superb winning season with five wins and only one defeat.

His trip to Spain was for the ‘Fourth international Trophy Ciudad de Burriana Falls’. Although the Liverpool club were one year younger than the rest of the leading European teams, they topped their group, only falling to Barcelona 3-1 in the quarter-finals.

It was George’s honour, however, to pick up the Sportsmanship award in front of 4,000 fans. George, whose favourite player is Patrice Evra, and who is backing England to win the World Cup, said: It was an honour to win the Fair Play award, but we all really wanted to win the Cup.
