Stretford & Urmston Messenger Thursday 3 June 2010
Urmston water polo emerging star Rhushub Bidd has won his first international honours with the Great Britain Under-16 water polo team.
The Captain of The Manchester Grammar School National Championship Team, Rhushub, from Moorside Road, competed in an eight nation tournament in Poland, helping the GB boys into the bronze medal berth.
Rhushub has been inspired by watching the Great Britain Olympic team train at the City of Manchester pools, now recognised as the home of British Water Polo.
A regular in the City of Manchester Under-16 team, Rhushub said: Their fitness, strength and skills levels are phenomenal.
He added: You have to be very fit, strong, physically brave, with powerful legs and a great tactical brain to become a top water polo player.
Water Polo Coach, Simon Jones, said: Rhushub is one of nine MGS players now involved with British Junior water polo and a coach’s dream: he is always the first to training and he has the ability to play any position in the pool.
Matthew Winstanley, who will also be sitting his GCSEs this summer, has already been training with the senior men’s squad as they train for London 2012.
Simon continued: I’m absolutely delighted that MGS were able to regain the U-16 national title, the School’s ninth national title in five years.
