The Manchester Grammar School is renowned world-wide for its academic excellence and the incredible breadth and quality of the co-curricular activities on offer.
We are extremely proud of our pupils and their successes, both in school and beyond.
We aim for the widest possible social access admitting boys regardless of social, cultural, religious and financial background and our bursary scheme is reported to be the best in the country. Entry is through our Assessment process only for boys aged 7, 8, 9 and 10 and by Entrance Examination and Assessment for entry to the Senior School at 11+.
We firmly believe in the care of each individual, and continually assess, evaluate and update our methods of pastoral support and welfare of our pupils to ensure that they are able to make the most of their time here at MGS. We listen to pupils' own views, both individually and collectively through the work of the School Council and Year Councils, and their views have resulted in changes to the way we carry out some of our systems and practices.
The School is divided into four distinct sections: Junior School for boys aged 7, 8, 9 and 10, Senior School: Lower School for boys aged 11 and 12 and Middle School from 13 to 16, and Sixth Form for students aged 17 to 18. This offers all the advantages and opportunities of a large school, but each pupil feels part of a smaller caring unit. Pupils are taught in small class sizes: around 20 in our Junior School, 20-26 in the Senior School and around half that in our Sixth Form.
Please select the relevant stage of entry from the menu on the left for more information on each section of the School and to view full details on how to apply to The Manchester Grammar School.
PLEASE NOTE: We are still accepting full fee applications for entry in September 2012. Unfortunately applications for bursary assistance are now closed.
Parent's comment after a tour of MGS in 2011
I enjoyed the humour. My son and I had a happy time at MGS this morning. He is looking forward to September and I am a proud dad ...all four children either attending or have attended the best schools and universities!
Mrs Hamilton is an exceptional lady, who exudes passion, focus, enthusiasm and commitment, you are all a great credit to the School.
We receive many wonderful comments from visitors - more of these can be found on our Open Events page.
