We offer entry to The Manchester Grammar School at Years 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12.
Late entry is for boys who are unable to join MGS at the start of any academic year, perhaps because of relocation, or because he has changed his mind about the school he would like to attend.
We admit boys purely on the basis of academic ability and potential and have no formal quota for admissions from Year 7; each year we adjust our provision accordingly. Read more about Late Entry from Year 7 onwards here.

We receive many lovely comments from parents and pupils thanking us after their visit to MGS; here are just a few.
Comments from our Whole School Open Events
We have just returned from your school's open evening where we were given a guided tour by Adib. Not only was Adib very informative and enthusiastic, he also made the effort to chat to our son. He is a great ambassador for MGS and we would be grateful if you could thank him on our behalf for all his effort.
**************************************************************************************** Just a note to say how impressed we were with the school and how organised the event was. We would like to thank the staff involved and particularly our guide, who is in Year 9 and called Pavar - he was truly excellent!
Comments from our Junior Open Event
We wanted to thank Staff, Parents and most of all the pupils of MGS for the warm welcome we received at last week's Junior School Open Day. It is wonderful to see how MGS has managed to set artistic and creative atmosphere along with academics creating a stimulating and inspirational environment.
The happy and great atmosphere you feel in MGS was uplifting, positive and it has been a true delight to watch all the children so thrilled and overjoyed even at the end of a long school day.
We are very impressed and would appreciate if you could pass our special thank you to our tour guides Riyaan, Shravan and Daniel (Year 5 pupils). They displayed amazing knowledge, enthusiasm and confidence on the school tour. They were good ambassadors engaging us with their infectious energy and enthusiasm. Our twin sons were transformed in the boys’ company.
We could see how MGS was the school were our children will be happy while having broad opportunities and avenues to stretch and make them well rounded young men.
**************************************************************************************** Just thought I should drop you an email to say thank you for the open event yesterday. My husband and I both agreed that the school was completely different than we had imagined – we thought we would find boys walking quietly on the left side of the corridors and everywhere very buffed and polished and instead what we found was so much better!
The boys, who charmed and entertained us in a way we had never come across before, are clearly at the heart of the school and are an absolute credit to themselves, their parents and MGS. I would like to say a particular thank you to Guy (Junior School) and Adam (Senior School) who gave us an outstanding tour and a real insight into life at MGS – they certainly reach for the moon, and I have a feeling that most of them get there.
****************************************************************************************
I visited the school with my son yesterday. At first he was a bit apprehensive at the thought of visting a new school. However at the end of his tour of the school he was extremely excited, so much so that he wished to join the school as soon as his half tem holiday finished. The reason for this is because Cameron from Year 6 was an excellent tour guide. He answered all our questions with confidence. The whole experience has given my son the drive to achieve his goal in becoming an MGS boy. Thank you so much, especially to Cameron.
**************************************************************************************** I attended the MGS junior event and was most impressed by what I saw. It was a lovely evening and what a credit the boys are to the school. In particular my guide Hassan (please excuse my spelling) was an absolute delight!
Comments about Assessment Days
I would just like to thank you and the other MGS staff that made Ben so welcome on Tuesday. He really enjoyed himself and didn’t stop talking about the day all night. Normally he never tells you what happens at school!!
I can’t believe I’ve got this chance to come to one of the best schools in the world!!! Therefore, I’m really looking forward to coming to the assessment day. Oh and by the way I am a vegetarian.
...the experience of the assessment day has been a life changing one for him – Rodger has switched on his fifth gear! He told me that it had been the best day of his life! While we are all very sad and disappointed that he wasn't offered a place we totally put our trust in MGS. It was a hugely positive experience for our son and we will certainly be applying for Year 7 entry.
