Our sporting clubs are underpinned by our five full time specialist PE staff and three permanent part time specialist coaches, along with numerous sports enthusiasts who bring our clubs alive here at MGS.
Our facilities include a sports hall – large enough to house three basketball courts – a gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, two multi-gyms with specialist equipment, high quality tennis courts, squash courts and the recently installed cricket nets. There are also extensive grassed areas, which include a football pitch, cricket pitches and an athletics area, along with separate fields adjacent to the School for rugby and hockey. We also take the boys further afield to participate in sports such as golf and water polo training.
It is our aim to promote enjoyment and satisfaction from sport and physical exercise whilst developing boys' knowledge, skills and fitness for sport and good health.
PE and games in Lower School (Years 7 and 8) are fun. All boys have timetabled lessons of PE, swimming and games. Pupils develop gymnastic ability, ball skills and knowledge of handball and basketball. Personal fitness is monitored and swimming is assessed. Lessons include rugby, soccer, hockey, badminton, swimming, cricket, softball, tennis and athletics. Boys can also choose to play golf and some of these sports involve inter-form competitions.
In Middle School (Years 9 to 11) there is a greater variety with additional sports such as rock climbing, squash, lacrosse, water polo, martial arts, basketball and table tennis.

Although PE and games are optional in the Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13) our specialists offer options including Personal Fitness Development, Life Saving, the Community Sports Leaders' Award, FA and RFU Coaching awards. We also offer University preparation courses for sports based degrees.
Other sports are available run by our teaching staff and other specialists with a passion for their particular activity – anything from fencing to mountain biking.
