A 14km walk in torrential rain and an overnight stay night in a tent might not seem the ideal preparation for a rugby match, but it proved to be perfect for MGS pupil Dan Forster, who went straight from his DofE Bronze Expedition to help Warrington Rugby Club’s Under-15s team win the Lancashire Cup 22-0.

Dan, in Year 10, spent Saturday walking in pouring rain before camping overnight, rising early on the Sunday morning to swap hiking boots for rugby beats and helping his team lift the trophy.

Here is Dan’s story:

“Having joined Warrington Rugby Club as a part of my physical activity for DofE. I didn’t want to miss the chance to play in the final my team and I had worked so hard for. With the help of Mr Coffey, an arrangement was made to allow for me to leave on time for the match. Torrential rain throughout the 14km walk of the first day wasn’t enough to dishearten my group as we woke up as early as possible the next day in order to reach Broadbottom station in time for the fixture. Arriving at the station well ahead of time, exhausted and with very sore feet went straight to Leigh Rugby Club for the game against Waterloo. I was delighted to achieve both a successful expedition and the Lancashire Cup title in the same weekend.”
