NYMT summer programme success

MGS 1

Congratulations to four of our pupils who have been accepted onto the National Youth Music Theatre Summer programme - Toby J, Oliver L, Joe B-S from year 12 and Jake B-S from year 10.

Jake B-S commented: "I have loved musical theatre for as long as I can remember. For me, there is no better feeling than standing on stage under the glare of the lights, the whole auditorium listening, with some of your best friends, and performing a song, dance, or scene. I performed with the National Youth Music Theatre last year, in their production of ‘Billy The Kid’, an American Musical written specifically for NYMT 5 years ago. Although it was only a 3 week course, it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I made great friendships with brilliantly talented people who all shared the same passion as me".

He spoke about his excitement for 2022: "I reauditioned for the company this year, and I was originally cast in the NYMT Showcase Concert, a new production for this year. I was unavailable for the performance dates, so NYMT kindly offered me a role in the dance troupe ensemble for Chess. This is a well-known musical set during the Cold War. It is about the game of chess itself, while the title is also a metaphor for the strategy of the USA and USSR during the war. The course starts in 2 weeks, running for 5 days in the Easter Holidays, and then for another 2 weeks in the summer. I can’t wait to get started!"

Year 12 pupil Joe B-S spoke about his excitement as he looks forward to being involved in the upcoming production: "I am really excited to be part of NYMT’s production of ‘Chess’ this summer. I performed with them last summer as well in their production of ‘Henrietta’ and loved it. We had two weeks of rehearsals and then a week of performance. I have enjoyed musical theatre for a long time, and love producing something special with a great group of people similar to myself. I am currently studying Drama A level and am part of MGS’ production of Jesus Christ Superstar, which is taking place in the summer term".

Well done to all our talented performers and good luck in your productions!
