MGS 2

Well done to everyone who took part in the MGS Easter Concert last night in the Memorial Hall. There was a fantastic variety of performances with pupils from all ages in the Senior School, with music including Senior Orchestra playing The Mestizo Waltz by Gabriela Frank and the Close Harmony Group singing Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap. There were also some performances from the Thursday Singers which included pupils from Manchester High School for Girls.

Here are a few words from Director of Music, Rob Carey:

"These have been unprecedented times for all those involved in musical performance whether at professional level, amateur level or in education. The fundamental premise for musical performance is that it should be shared, whether as a participant in an ensemble team, or as a solo player sharing with an audience. It is at this stage, the sharing point, where the real personal learning, musical experience, fun and sense of achievement is realised. I am very sorry that due to the obvious circumstances beyond our control, we have been unable to welcome parents into school for the live events until comparatively recently.
It is so important that the pupils get the chance to perform live, and share what they have learned and prepared. It has been a huge pleasure for us all in the department to be able to resume leading music groups and ensembles of all levels in relatively normal circumstances; I am delighted to say that the response from all the pupils has been excellent in terms of their renewed involvement and enthusiasm. I would like to thank all parents for the incredible support you give to your child's music learning, particularly over the last couple of years, including engagement with remote teaching, and patience with the challenges of the ensemble and performance situations as we meet up again. We have all managed to keep the music learning ticking over, and are gradually resuming normality. It is great to see an audience of parents and friends back in school".

Well done to all the pupils involved in the performances and especially to those year 13 pupils who received a Colours badge in recognition of their hard work and dedication to the Music Department throughout their time at MGS!

We very much look forward to welcoming visitors back for future events at the school!
