Congratulations to year 13 pupil Ben M who has been selected to play for U18s England Rugby! Ben has also been awarded a Senior Academy University Contract, which will allow him to play for Sale Sharks alongside his university studies.

Ben commented on his passion for the sport, saying: "I have always enjoyed rugby. I enjoy the team environment and the reward of seeing my improvements year upon year after lots of hard work, whether that be in the gym, when doing analysis or out on the training pitch. I would say that my journey in Rugby really began when I was picked for the Sale Sharks Junior Academy when I was 14. Being in the Academy showed me how the professionals act, and so I attempted to emulate them. This meant organising my time to fit in work, rugby, and my social life".

He added: "I would say that this dedication to excelling on the pitch and in academics has put me in a better position to take on my impending A-levels despite my whole Easter holiday being taken up by the U18 6 Nations tournament, in which I was selected to play in for England. After being invited to many camps over the past couple years, it was great to finally get 3 caps and help England to wins against Wales, Italy, and Scotland. It was an unbelievable experience, the highlight undoubtedly being the number of new friends I made, who I will remain in contact with throughout our rugby playing careers".

In relation to his upcoming gap year, Ben aims to play Rugby in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere in order to develop his game and to enrich himself through new experiences. He will start his university degree in 2023, and is aiming to be awarded a full-time professional contract after completing his degree.

Best of luck Ben for all your upcoming training and your future career in Rugby!
