Year 5 pupil Carter has been excelling in his favourite sport, football, beyond the school pitches whilst also balancing his academic studies.

Carter spoke about his passion for the sport from a very young age: "I have been playing football since I was 3; my parents always used to say that I wouldn’t stop kicking a football even from a very young age. I would go outside in my garden and practise shooting. Over the years I have played in many teams and even got chosen as Manager’s Player of the Year as well as Player’s Player of the Year for quite a few years. I was really proud of this.

"When I was 6 I was selected to play for Manchester City development which meant I had to train every Thursday night. We had some great training and competed against other academies. I remember one training session and it was hailing down so they cancelled it, everyone ran to their cars and my parents said I was the only one who wanted to stay out and continue to train. I definitely think you have to love football to do this! At one point I was playing for four grassroot teams and I’d never been so busy. I don’t think I had a free day in the week but I loved it".

Carter spoke about the range of different competitive environments which he has competed in: "Over the years I have also participated in many competitive tournaments including some national tournaments; my favourite was playing at St George’s Park (England’s Training Ground). It was a two day tournament and my team won, it was a weekend I’ll never forget. I even got interviewed by the bbc because of my role in the team. I got scouted for Bolton when I was 7, and regularly train with them. I train on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and have matches at the weekend.

Nevertheless, Carter recognises the importance of his studies: "My homework always comes first though, so I’m not allowed to go training until I’ve done my homework. I really enjoy school and realise the importance of my education along with my love of sports. I love how MGS supports me to do my best in both. It is my dream to one day be a professional footballer (and score on my debut) but I know how important my education is as well, and I have realised that MGS is the best place for me to achieve my dreams. I have been lucky enough to represent MGS in football and rugby and look forward to continuing to do so in the future. I love playing for Bolton, my position is mainly striker or right wing. I am very proud to be playing football at Bolton and to be studying at MGS. MGS is very challenging and that’s what I love about it. Just like the football, it can challenge me in all kinds of different ways."

Well done Carter and best of luck for all your football training in the future!
