Year 5 pupil Aaron has been excelling in multiple sports, beyond the school pitches whilst also balancing his academic studies.

Aaron spoke about his early memories of sports: "My sports journey started when I was very young, with my first experience of trying to swim. I didn’t really like water and it was very surprising when my parents said “You just couldn't stop splashing around in the pool!” That encouraged me to grow and love swimming from a very young age. As my swimming developed, my first ever swimming lesson was a success. Since that day on, I have been attending swimming lessons, working on my breast-stroke pull out and my tumble turns. Now, I train for racing swimming and love to represent MGS in swimming galas. Whether we win or lose, I am proud to be supporting MGS and watching our team progress throughout the years.

"In Year 3, I held my first rugby ball ever. I felt very intrigued with this sport and found myself becoming more competitive in rugby. I worked hard to get better at breathing, tackling and stamina in my games lessons. With the teachers help and support, my skill and technique impressively progressed and I ended up playing for my school. Weekly Mile every Monday morning helped me improve in this sport, and I can’t thank my mum enough because she is there to take me to every Weekly Mile whatever the weather. So far in the junior school, I have competed in AJIS rugby, which was a great experience for me. I learnt that our team couldn’t work without one another and that injuries don’t matter because your team needs you."

Aaron added: "Football was a sport that most of us can practise anywhere with family, siblings and by yourself. Starting when I was an infant, I played against siblings which developed all my tricks. Since that day on, I found an interest at the game; at age of 4, I started playing competitively for my first football club. Playing with other people made me realise how much fun it was I started to get more into the game. The football club was full of different race, ages and genders. It was a diverse community who just want to play the game we all love. Hockey is the sport which I never seemed to know anything about until MGS taught me everything you need to know. I came to love the sport since the ball touched my stick in my first hockey lesson at MGS. I learnt how to move the ball in a sweeping motion and use stick work to get past the defenders. Hockey gave a different perspective of sports. You couldn’t touch the ball; everyone is busy and no one is left out."

Aaron concluded: "Though I play a variety of sports, I revise and complete all assignments before delving into the game. Playing keeps me healthy, clears my mind and taking in the loss helps me be prepared not just physically but mentally for academic reasons. I thank all the love MGS has given me so far, in nurturing me to love sports."

Well done Aaron and keep enjoying all of the different sports!
