Joe Riley

Well done to year 11 pupil Joe who has been successful in gaining a place in the National Youth Training Choir.

Joe commented: “I was delighted to be accepted into The National Youth Training Choir. I’ve always enjoyed group singing and I have done for a while, so to be able to sing with such vast number of people is very exciting for me. I have been trained classically on my instruments however, I have never had a singing lesson, which in a sense is quite refreshing as it gives me a lot of freedom to sing what I enjoy. I consider my approach to the audition a little avant-garde. Whilst many others sang classical, operatic pieces, I sang a pop song. An Adele pop song. I’m glad I stuck to my guns though as I think they were refreshed by hearing something a little different and it was honestly a very enjoyable process.

He added: "My first course is at Easter in London at the Royal Albert Hall and then my second is in the summer in Rutland. I have had a passion for music my whole life and one of the biggest enjoyable aspects of music for me is playing and singing with others, so I’m really excited to sing with many talented musicians and meet really amazing people!”

Congratulations Joe and best of luck with your upcoming performances!
