Sixth Form Entry
We welcome Sixth Form applications from students who are currently studying GCSEs (or equivalents, if abroad) in Year 11. Students should be aged between 15 years and nine months and 17 years and three months on 1 September in the year of entry.
Bursary places are also available in the Sixth Form. Further details of these can be found in the Fees and Assistance section.
Open Events
We highly recommend attending one of our whole school open events as well as our dedicated Sixth Form Admissions Evening on Thursday 14 November 2024.
The whole school open event will give you a chance to view and get a feel for the entire school, whereas the Sixth Form Evening will inform students of the style of assessment we have for entry, as well as the ways in which MGS can help them fulfil their university ambitions. There will be an opportunity to meet senior members of staff, including the Sixth Form team, as well as hear from current pupils and find out about the range of activities and societies on offer.
These take place on the following dates:
- Whole School Open Evening ~ Thursday 26 September 2024, 4:30pm – 7:00pm (register here)
- The High Master will give a short talk at 5:15pm and 6:15pm.
- The last Junior School Tour will start at 6:00pm.
- The last Senior School Tour will start at 6:15pm.
- Sixth Form Admissions Evening ~ Thursday 14 November 2024, 6:00pm – 8:00pm (register here)
- Whole School Open Morning ~ Saturday 16 November 2024, 9:30am – 12:00pm (register here)
Please register your attendance at any of these events by following the relevant link above.
Assessment Process
We base our judgements for entry on an Assessment Day. These days are tailored to suit the likely combination of subjects indicated by candidates. We are keen to ensure that every candidate has an equal chance of success based on potential. For this reason, some of the assessments that take place are based on new stimulus material covering topics candidates will not have met before, whereas others assess current knowledge. The day also includes an interview to allow us to gain a clear picture of their co-curricular interests and academic passions.
Conditional offers are made on the basis of performance on the Assessment Day. Typically, we set offers of a student achieving an average of a grade 7 (equivalent to an A in the old grading system) across his GCSE subjects, with at least a grade 8 in the subjects they are choosing to study.
If you would like further information about our admissions process or Sixth Form courses, please contact our Admissions department (k.heathcote@mgs.org).
Subject Choices
All students are required to choose four subjects to study in the Sixth Form and below you will find a list of those currently offered. More information about each subject can be found under the ‘Academic’ tab, within the ‘Academic Departments’ section of the website.
