The Duke of Edinburgh's Award
The ethos of the DofE is fully in step with what we are seeking to achieve educationally; to educate young men and to equip them to have the courage to use the understanding they gain from this, whilst challenging themselves, developing teamwork and leadership skills, make friends and have fun.
MGS is one of the most successful Duke of Edinburgh Centres in the North of England, with around 300 boys each year taking part in the award. This comprises of around 180 Bronze, 80 Silver and 40 Gold. Boys start the Bronze Award in Year 9, the Silver Award in Year 10 and the Gold Award in Year 12.
Boys complete their expedition on foot at Bronze, but have the option of walking or canoeing at Silver and Gold.
