Thank you to everyone who attended the Annual MGS Islamic Society Dinner on Saturday 11 March. The school welcomed over 240 guests to bring together the Muslim Community, celebrate the accomplishments of the Islamic Society over the past year and enjoy a wonderful evening. Attendees were delighted to hear from the High Master regarding the planned construction of Wudu Facilities to make access to ablution for Muslim students and staff more convenient.

MGS pupils, staff and parents heard from two distinguished Muslim speakers who spoke regarding their past experiences and imparted advice upon our Attendees.

Our first guest speaker, Imam Abid Khan, is a graduate of Law and teacher by profession, currently serving as the Director of Education and Assistant Imam of Cheadle Mosque. Currently working alongside numerous charitable organisations, including the National Zakat Foundation, Water Aid and Read Foundation, he spoke regarding the importance of Islam and imparted advice in relations to one’s daily life as a Muslim.

Our second guest speaker was Dr Wakkas Khan MBE (OM 91–98), current humanitarian, philanthropist and dental surgeon. Recently, Wakkas Khan was awarded his MBE for his contributions to charity, the youth, and interfaith relations in His Majesty the King’s 2023 New Years Honours. Wakkas told attendees about his journey in MGS as a Muslim, advising regarding the importance of education, and his pride in seeing how far the Muslim Community within MGS has come.

ISoc President Umar S spoke about the wonderful atmosphere on the weekend, saying: "The 2023 MGS ISoc Dinner was a wonderful event, exemplifying the value of unity and the Muslim Ummah at a time when the World is divided. The Muslim Community came together to celebrate the recent achievements of our Society, including a charity bake sale for the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal, which raised over £1000. We also celebrated regular opportunities made available for students, including Friday Prayers, Study Circles and Tafseer Classes. We have sought to follow the path of Prophet Muhammed (pbuh), who remarked “The seeking of knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim,’ through our regular Study Circles and Tafseer Classes available to all students.” I thank the Outgoing ISoc Committee for organising this wonderful event, and hope to attend future Dinners to celebrate future accomplishments.’

Well done to the MGS ISoc Committee for organising the event and ensuring that everything ran smoothly throughout the evening. We look forward to welcoming the MGS Community back for the 2024 ISoc Dinner.
