Our highly qualified teachers bring mathematics to life for our boys, helping them to develop both logical thought and mental agility in problem solving, along with an awareness of the importance of Mathematics as a basis for the study of other subjects.

We provide many opportunities both to enrich our boys’ mathematical understanding and to stretch our most able mathematicians.
We have two weekly Maths clubs, Eureka! and Pi Shop, where lectures are given by boys and staff. In addition, boys achieve success in mathematical competitions; in the UKMT Challenges, many win Gold certificates, and even medals, and our teams regularly win places in the National Finals of the Team Challenges. Other successes come in World Maths Day, the Manchester University Cryptography Competition and the annual Mathematics on Merseyside competitions. Sixth Form boys attend the annual IMA lecture for schools, hosted by MGS, as well as courses and workshops run by universities.
We believe it is essential to increase boys' confidence in using Mathematics. Older boys mentor those who experience particular difficulties in their work.
