John Young
John has been a Governor since 2014.  He retired as a Partner in Hogan Lovells, the international law firm, in 2012 after 33 years with the firm and its predecessors: he joined the firm in 1979 following Law School, becoming a Partner in 1987, Senior Partner of predecessor firm Lovells in 2004 and global Co-Chair of Hogan Lovells from 2010 until his retirement.  In his professional life he advised the insurance industry for over 25 years on corporate transactions and regulatory matters.  Following his retirement from Hogan Lovells John was active for over ten years as a non-executive director in the insurance industry but is now principally engaged in the voluntary sector.  He is a Fellow Commoner of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, and chairs the College’s audit committee.  He attended MGS from 1968 to 1975, where he first began to develop his lifelong passions for Scottish and Alpine mountaineering, trekking, skiing, wildlife and the environment.Â
