David Cardwell

David Cardwell
David has been a Governor at MGS since 1999 and served as Acting Chair in 2021. He is a member of the Nominations and Remuneration Committees, both of which he chaired between 2021 and 2022. David is Professor of Superconducting Engineering and Pro-Vice-Chancellor responsible for Strategy and Planning at the University of Cambridge, prior to which he was Head of the Engineering Department between 2014 and 2018. He has authored over 400 technical papers and patents in the field of bulk superconductivity since 1987. David was elected to a Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2012 in recognition of his contribution to the development of superconducting materials for engineering applications. He was awarded a Sc.D. by the University of Cambridge in 2014 and an honorary D.Sc. by the University of Warwick in 2015. David currently holds a Distinguished Visiting Professorship at the University of Hong Kong and is a member of the Hong Kong Governments University Grants Committee. David is married to Sharon and they have two sons and three grandchildren.
