Jonathan Prag

Jonathan Prag
Jonathan has been a Governor at MGS since 2012; he was initially appointed as the Oxford University Representative Governor, but when the University abolished such arrangements in 2014 he became an ordinary governor. Jonathan was at Manchester Grammar from 1986 to 1993, from where he went to Corpus Christi College, Oxford, to read Classics. He subsequently completed a PhD in ancient history at UCL and taught at the University of Leicester, before returning to Oxford, where he has been a Fellow of Merton College since 2005 and is Professor of Ancient History. His research focuses on ancient Sicily where he regularly carries out archaeological fieldwork, and he is increasingly at the forefront of the application of Digital Humanities methods to the study of the ancient world, publishing in Nature and directing a major European research project. He currently also leads on a major programme of syllabus reform for the Oxford classics degree. Jonathan is married with two children currently attending schools in Oxford.
