Author Mathis wins top literary prize

Talented young author Mathis Power, in Year 9, has been announced as a winner of The Portico Sadie Massey Awards for Young Readers and Writers 2021.
Out of 261 entries, Mathis was chosen as the winner of the Key Stage 3 section by a panel of independent judges, who commented that his short story – A New Beginning – was very strong and powerful.
This is a superb achievement by Mathis, who will receive a certificate, book bundle, Portico Library gift pack, and an invitation to adopt a book. At a later date, he will be invited to Portico Library, in Manchester, to choose a book from the special collection that needs restoration. When restoration is complete, he will be invited back to view the book, which will have a special book plate with Mathis’s name placed inside the front cover.
This would then be kept on the shelves for as long as the Portico Library exists.
