Latin Reading Competition 2022
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the annual MGS Latin Reading Competition!
A team from each year 8 form presented a dramatic reading of a story in Latin. This year’s piece was in basilica: a showdown in which Caecilius (the beloved hero of the Cambridge Latin Course) has his day in court and gains vengeance on the swindler Hermogenes.
Our judge, Dr Paul Thompson , former Head of Classics and Deputy High Master at the Manchester Grammar School, said it was a pleasure to be back at MGS and enjoy the buzz of the competition.
He commented: “It is hugely impressive to hear such a high standard of Latin from the students when they have only been studying the subject for a term and a half. They clearly enjoyed the challenge and the characterisation was excellent - well done to all!”
8D were declared the winning team (Seb, Benjy, Shrish and Adrian), with 8B and 8L as this year’s runners-up. Pupils will receive their prizes in Lower School Assembly.
Well done to everyone who entered the competition this year and thank you to Dr Thompson for adjudicating the event!
