Congratulations to year 6 pupil Jasper who will now be competing at windsurfing competitions as part of the British Sailing Team as a youth athlete.

Jasper spoke about his introduction to the sport: "My family and I go on sailing holidays regularly, so I decided to join a sailing club. I joined Debdale Outdoor centre and learned to sail Picos and Toppers. Last year, the lead windsurfing coach at my sailing club didn’t have enough windsurfers to compete in T15, so he asked everyone at the club if they wanted to try windsurfing. I gave it a go and really enjoyed it, I started to go to windsurfing training on Saturday and Tuesday".

Jasper continued speaking about competing: "I competed in my first race, a T15 race at West Kirby. Throughout last year I competed in competitions such as Nationals. I was offered a place on the British Sailing Team in November last year after winning the regional windsurfing championships in the 3.5 fleet. I decided to accept the offer from the British Sailing team, and have been going to all of the training camps this winter. I competed in my first competition this year, which was the Eric Twiname Championships, I came 6th overall and 5th boy in the 4.5 fleet. I was the number one eleven year old in the 4.5 fleet.

Jasper concluded: "The best thing about windsurfing is the excitement when you go fast".

Best of luck to Jasper for his future in windsurfing!
