Congratulations to current year 7 pupil Jasper M who attended the OPAP Techno293 Windsurfing World Championships as part of team GBR.

After winning the Regional Championships, Jasper now competes in windsurfing competitions as part of the British Sailing Team as a youth athlete. Jasper competed in multiple races with varying weather conditions across the fleet, and finished in a very respectable 39th place, a good position for his first international regatta.

Jasper commented on his experiences: "The event was held in Limassol Cyprus, there were over 260 competitors from different countries all over the world. It was held between the 31st of October and the 5th of November 2022. The windsurfing was divided into different fleets depending on your age and sail size. I raced in the U13 fleet; everyone in this fleet was on a 5.8 square meter sail. This year was the first year that this age group was included in the world championships.

"During the event there were some tasks which sailors had to do to make the event run smoothly. One of the more important ones was that each sailor had to collect a tracker before they went on the water and when you came back in you had to check in your tracker. Due to this rule being so important if anyone failed to complete it they would receive a penalty. The tracker was also useful because after each day of racing you could look back at the tracking app to see how you could improve.

He concluded by saying: "Overall this was one of the best experiences of my life it was so much fun and I was doing the sport I loved. The opening and closing ceremony had a great atmosphere, everyone was pleased for others who had been successful".

Well done Jasper and best of luck for your upcoming competitions and training!
