Gregynog Young Musician of the Year 1

Congratulations to year 12 pupil Vibhav and year 10 pupil Riccardo for entering the  Gregynog Young Musician Competition. They both were very successful and reached the semi-finals in Classical Guitar and Piano respectively.

They performed in the Gregynog Hall in Wales, as part of the competition which was founded in 2005 and has become one of the most prestigious events of its kind. Entrants were required to have reached Grade 8 standard or equivalent, on any orchestral, percussion or brass band instrument. Only 17 musicians from across the UK were selected to perform in the rounds, and this included a finalist of the BBC Young Musician of the Year.

Vibhav commented on his experiences, saying: "I  was very happy and excited to have reached the semi-final stage of this prestigious competition. Gregynog Music event is  highly reputed  attracting the best talent in the country all competing for the coveted title of   'Gregynog Young Musician of the Year'. I was the only classical guitarist at the event and it was a great opportunity to perform alongside such talented peers. It was held at a fabulous venue in Wales. There was a panel of four judges. It was also live-streamed globally from the Gregynog website. I played The Frog Galliard by John Dowland and Capricho Àrabe by Fransico Tarréga receiving some valuable feedback. It was an enriching experience and one that I will look back to with wonderful memories".

Riccardo said: "Reaching the semi-finals of the "Gregynog Young Musician of the Year Competition" was a pleasant unexpected surprise for me. Because of this, I had the possibility to perform in the beautiful Gregynog Hall, which is a unique venue in the heart of Wales, along the weekend. There were a variety of different instruments being played including the violin, guitar, flute, euphonium, saxophone, double bass, harp, marimba, and obviously some other pianists like me. This was another great opportunity not only to perform with a live audience in such a wonderful place (and on a great piano!), but also to meet other young musicians and to spend couple of days in a wonderful natural environment as the Wales countryside is".
